Matrescence
The term matrescence describes the profound transition a woman goes through when becoming a mother – physically, emotionally, psychologically, and socially.
Although the term matrescence has existed since the 1970s, when it was introduced by Dana Raphael, it is still not widely known. Since the early 2000s, Dr. Aurélie Athan has helped bring greater attention to it.
I envision a future where this word is spoken about in boardrooms and around kitchen tables, in the same way we talk about adolescence.
Watch this video as I honour the voices who have shared their knowledge and research about this powerful stage of life.
